The song Ellen's third song (D 839, op. 52 No. 6) from his song cycle Das Fräulein vom See, composed by Franz Schubert in 1825, begins with the words "Ave Maria".

Later, not by Schubert himself, there were many arrangements in which the original song text was replaced by the Latin Ave Maria prayer. The song is therefore often referred to as "Schubert's Ave Maria".
